Chancellor  García Belaunde  has warned that a negative result in the battle to extradite ex-President Alberto Fujimori from Chile may result in protests in Peru, according to the newspaper La Tercera.

Concerning the bilateral relationship, he said that both countries ought to be mature enough to deal with their disagreements.

Peru’s minister for exterior relations José Antonio García Belaunde made a public declaration that if the Supreme Court of Chile rejects the extradition request there will be street protests in Peru.“It is clear that if the Supreme Court of Chile denies the extradition of Fujimori, there will obviously be a lot of shouting and protests etcetera in Peru, and one way or another there will be serious effects,” commented the Chancellor from Spain, where he is currently engaged in an official visit.
