Suspension for judge who freed “narco”

Four days after judge Carlos Ramos Caycho freed suspected drug kingpin John Salazar Paredes, he was suspended yesterday until the investigation into his actions has been completed.

Peru.21 published a warning yesterday that he was still in active office, despite strong evidence against him regarding possible corruption.  Lima courts had taken no action to remove him from office or even to suspend him.

Although the Court of Lima took no action, the president of the Office for the Control of Judicial Affairs immediately made the decision to suspend him.

We are also informed that the Seventh Penal Judgement of Callao has immediately issued a warrant to re-arrest Salazar Paredes, for whom Ramos opened the doors of the Sarita Colonia jail. The judgement conceded that his liberty was granted in an irregular manner. Police are unaware of his current whereabouts, and it is possible that he has already fled the country.
