Infrastructure for agricultural development near the Colombian border

Minister of Defense Allan Wagner and regional president of Loreto department Yvan Vásquez have signed a convention to organize civic action flights to aid development in the Amazon zone, particularly in Alto Putumayo, a region bordering a province of Colombia where guerrillas are a powerful force.

Minister Wagner stressed that the Program for Development with Security is a scheme for progressive intervention, which will continue to work with the contribution and participation of local and regional authorities.  He added that “development is the best form of security to maintain living borders, it’s quite the opposite of militarization.”

Agriculture minister Juan José Salazar also made commitments to establish an agrarian agency before July 28th (Independence Day) and to develop 250 hectares of camu camu fruit and 250 hectares of rice, backed with credit from the Bank of the Nation and supervised by Inade.
