Investigation into Fujimori for terrorist arms trafficking

The Public Ministry of Peru will send letters of request to the state prosecutors of Colombia, asking them to interrogate the Peruvian member of the FARC guerrilla group Denis Silva Ruiz, known as “Iván The Peruvian”, as part of their ongoing investigations into ex-president Alberto Fujimori for the traffic of weapons to the Colombian narco-terrorist group.

Public prosecutor Jorge Chávez Cotrina will ask his Colombian counterparts to question Silva Ruiz about Fujimori’s suspected participation in the illegal sale of 10,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles to the FARC in 1999 for a price of US$24 million. He will put together the official request and a set of questions that chief state prosecutor Adelaida Bolívar will then send to Colombia.

Silva Ruiz, captured on the 18th of February on the Brazil-Venezuela border, is said to be the man who managed the sale alongside Fujimori’s spy chief and right hand man Vladimiro Montesinos. Montesinos is currently serving a 20-year jail term for his part in the dealings. If found guilty, Fujimori could face up to ten years in jail.
