After two months of closure, Lima Cathedral reopened its doors yesterday for the Archbishop of Lima Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani to lead the congregation in Sunday Mass.

The cathedral had been closed for maintenance and restoration in several of its chapels, so as to be open and ready for the coming Holy Week celebrations, one of the most important festivals in the Catholic year. In particular, the chapels of
La Candelaria and Santa Apolonia were restored so as to show the original colors in their paintings and to integrate more recent artworks.

The four clocks in the cathedrals two towers were also reconditioned, and more than twenty masons are still working on the stone doorway so as to have reconstruction finished by the end of the month.

Cathedral staff hope to be able to return to the normal schedule of guided tours from 9am to 4:30pm on weekdays and 10am to 1pm on Saturdays.
