Bus hijack leaves teacher dead

A young teacher and mother of one-year-old twins was killed yesterday after being shot by a man hijacking a bus she was traveling on from Cajamarca to Lima.

The 29-year-old was hit by a stray round while in her seat, with her children in her arms. She was traveling with her boyfriend, who was wearing an olive green t-shirt; it is thought that the hijackers confused this with a similar item of police uniform, and opened fire thinking him to be an off-duty officer.

The attack started when the driver of the Royal Palace bus was forced to stop to clear rocks that the criminals had scattered over the highway. Some twelve masked and heavily armed men then surrounded the bus, and two of them boarded to steal the possessions of the 49 passengers, some of whom were asleep in the aisle.

According to some witnesses, one passenger sitting forward in the bus had been talking in hushed tones on a cell phone. This man, who is believed to have links to the attackers, had been picked up en-route about two hours before the attack.

  1. Hello just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few
of the images aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I
think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same outcome.
