Lima stock exchange slightly down

The Lima stock exchange closed on Tuesday slightly down, on a day that also brought drops in stock markets around Latin America, Europe and the US.

In Peru, increases in industrial share prices offset the reduction. Latest data suggest that the General Index (IGRA) dropped just 0.03% to 15,863.47, while the Selected Index of the top 15 stocks (ISEL) dropped 0.14% to 26,668.63.

A drop in the US financial sector brought about by fears of losses in the mortgage market spread to banks and insurance companies in Europe.

According to preliminary data, the 2,583 transactions on the floor in Lima totaled 60 million soles, roughly US$18.8 million.
