An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale caused alarm in Moyobamba yesterday.The tremor occurred at 9:51am and its epicenter was 18km North-East of the jungle city, where a more serious earthquake on September 25th 2005 caused serous damage and at least 22 deaths.
The more recent quake, around 100 times weaker, caused panic among those who feared a repeat of the previous disaster, but no damage has been reported. This is the fifth tremor to register 5 or more on the Richter scale this year in
Peru.
