Chilean interior minister Belisario Velasco announced yesterday that he has asked his ambassador in Lima to investigate and take charge of the situation regarding the kidnaps of two Chileans in Peru within the last 30 days.
The first was kidnapped by drug traffickers in Tacna (on the Chilean border) and was released only recently when he was struck with acute appendicitis. The other was abducted as he left a restaurant in Barranco yesterday and was released a few hours later.
Velasco, an expert in intelligence and public security, said that all the details were in the hands of the Ministry of Exterior Relations in Santiago, which was instructing its ambassador in Peru.
