Health Ministry fears dengue fever in Lima

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) undertook a preventative campaign against the mosquito that transmits dengue fever.

The operation, which took place in the Lima district of Santa Anita, consisted of widespread fumigation to kill of the Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that spread the disease, as well as a publicity campaign to raise awareness of how to combat the insects.

Ministry officials set up tents where they explained how to clean and protect standing water stores, where the mosquito larvae mature. There was also an example of the vector mosquito on show, along with color information sheets to help people identify a dengue outbreak.

Dengue is a serious and sometimes deadly tropical fever cause by a family of viruses. There is no vaccine, and no specific cure.
