New green bus may spell the end for “killer combis”

A new gas-powered public transport system will be on trial in Lima until June, on the invitation of local government looking for novel solutions to the city’s transport problems.

Talking to Canal N, a director of the company supplying the vehicles said that he was happy with results so far, confirming that the vehicle is performing in line with the key aim of improving citizens’ quality of life.

The bus is powered by natural gas and possesses internal security cameras. Payment is made using a special card.

The company spokesman said that one of these large, modern vehicles can replace four small “combi” minibuses, a 26-seater “couster” and one of the 1960s public buses that still see service in the capital.
