Three discos closed in San Juan de Miraflores

The local government of the Lima district of San Juan de Miraflores has closed down three discos for failing to meet safety standards. Police officers and local officials found that three of the fifteen nightspots on the Bulevar San Juan lacked usable emergency exits, fire extinguishers, and plans for the event of an emergency.

The three establishments that were closed are Cocolizo on block eight of Amézaga, and Brahma Bar and Picasso, both on block 3 of Verástegui.

Three other discos were fined for serving drinks on the public street and admitting minors.

The San Juan area is a popular weekend party district among middle-class Peruvians, but little frequented by foreigners. San Juan de Miraflores is a separate district to Miraflores, some 11km away.

A fire in a disco near Lima’s Jockey Plaza in 2002 left at least 28 dead, mainly due to failure to meet safety standards.
