Garcia happy about economic outlook

President Garcia made a speech today praising Peru’s economic growth of 7.5% in the first quarter, and claiming that this in due not only to rises in metals prices on the world market but also to an increase in local consumption.

At a ceremony to congratulate interior minister Luis Alva Castro and police leaders following the success of their operation to dislodge illegal traders from the Santa Anita market, he said that recent figures show that the country is advancing and will, with order and legality, advance even faster.

He also made known that the Club de Paris countries are willing to accept early payment of $2.5 billion in foreign debt, further improving the economic outlook for Peru as funds are freed up for further growth.
