Aymara New Year to be celebrated at Mollocco ruins

A ceremony will be held on June 21st at the archaeological site of Mollocco in Puno, near Lake Titicaca, to celebrate Aymara New Year or Pacha Kuti.

The ritual is intended both for tourists and for locals, as a way to promote their living Andean cultural heritage. It is held on the date of the winter solstice, when the sun is lowest in the skies of the Southern Hemisphere.

Funds have recently been put aside for conservation of the archaeological site, which features seven significant ruins.
